Shoulder Injuries

Many times, shoulder pain is accompanied by loss of shoulder range of motion and decreased rotator cuff strength.

Kinesiology tape may be used to help facilitate your rotator cuff and shoulder deltoid muscle. It can augment your physical therapy exercises to ensure that you quickly gain strength and proper motion around your shoulder.

The proper recovery is imperative for complete healing. Without it, you are opening yourself up to even more damage to your shoulder and more annoying and serious shoulder problems. In the event of an injury it is recommended that you following the R.I.C.E. treatment advice - Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation. It is important that in the event of a shoulder injury that you consult your physician or doctor as soon as possible. Fractures and sprains that are ignored can lead to complications.

Application Fundamentals

Kinesiology tape is designed to be stretched over the area requiring treatment. It is pre-stretched on our rolls by 30% to allow easy application, however, more stretch can be added to provide greater support.

Always start by applying 4-5cm of tape without stretch as an anchor, this creates the base of the application, then stretch the tape over the area and return to an 4-5cm unstretched length at the end of the piece.

Note, thick body hair can reduce the performance of the tape as it reduces the skin surface area to the adhesive. Also it may be painful to remove the tape if body hair is longer. If you do chose to shave your skin, we do recommend 24-48 hours gap before applying tape.
